Walked into Bill's flat yesterday, he took one look at me and started laughing. "I guess we won't be going out tonight", he correctly stated. Apparently the late nights had taken their toll on me. Today I woke up refreshed, took a run through Hyde Park and was ready to play tourist once again. I rode the Hop On Hop Off Bus around London, make sure you get a guide who tells bad jokes.

I did make it to Amsterdam for one evening and was able to have the Amsterdam experience I had been hoping for; meeting people, coffee shops, making friends, bars, clubs, and the red light district. No pictures were taken, it's probably best that way.

Having seen them in Chicago and New York, I went to the Musee de l'Orangerie to see more of Monet's Water Lillies. All over the museums here people are told not to take photos yet I see them doing it constantly. A great night out for a great dinner at Les Deux Magots and then met friends and made new friends at a club. Don't forget the Febreze. These lights were like giant champagne glasses, in fact the were setup to appear as bubbles were rising to the top of the glass. Very cool. Late night on the Champs-Elysees.

This museum was once a train station and has now been converted into a museum, and just like everything else here in Paris is so grandiose. Some great works present here from Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Gauguin and Van Gogh.  My favorite was from Jean-Léon Gérôme, a painting that unexplainably appeared to be three dimensional and was most impressive. 6AM club and up at 11AM to run from the hotel to the Eiffel Tower, lost on the way back home but you are never truly lost as long as you keep running. A 4 mile run quickly became a 7 mile run.

a night out for carb-loading turned into a crazy fun late night of wine loading, with sides of both vodka and tequila. was able to pull it together and run in the Hot Chocolate 15k this AM and turn in a respectable time. not really enjoying this cold weather running but am performing well.

Participated in the Urbanathlon today, a fun and challenging 10 mile race with seven obstacles scattered throughout the course. The highlight of the obstacles was climbing the stairs at Soldier Field, not once but several times. I was actually quite fond of sliding across the hood of taxi cabs as well, Dukes of Hazard style. Headed back north into Wisconsin for another triathlon today, although this time Jodi was the one competing. A great day for her with an impressive time for a newbie. 62 degrees in the water and 105 degree heat index made for an incredibly difficult day. I had four goals here; 1. Finish 2. Sub seven hours 3. Beat my friend Brian's time 4. Sub six hours. I accomplished all my goals except for the last one, yet I know if the temps were a bit more normal I would have been successful. I have never been more happy with my performance after a race. Been very excited for Union Sushi, Jodi and I finally made it in last night. We really enjoyed the sushi, specialty drinks, robata grill and atmosphere. Wagyu beef slider, almost classic preparation: raw quail egg, sesame oil, pickled baby daikon & wasabi-honey mustard with wonton chips. Too good.

I stopped by Aloha Mixed Plate for one of my favorite meals in the world, the Ali'i Plate. The meal consists of Lau Lau, kalua pig, two scoops of rice, lomi lomi salmon, mac & cheese, poi and haupia. Then I saw this, Amish in Hawaii on their cellphone.

Swimming today on another great day, it was a bit choppy but that only makes it more fun. on my way back form Black Rock I felt a stinging pain in my arm. Turns out I was stung by a jellyfish, again. Nothing terrible, but I did take a picture. You can see some redness across my wrist, a few red dots and a small red line on my forearm. Urination on my arm was not needed, thankfully.

10 AM packet pickup in Lahaina today. Possibly the smallest race registration I have ever seen. There were no booths, no vendors, and not many free goodies. While in Chicago I need to keep training for an upcoming run on Maui. It is far too cold, snowy and icy outside for me. Purchased a one month membership at DePaul's athletic center to run on their indoor track. Went there last week to run 19 miles and found that my GPS on my iPhone did not work indoors and was forced to count laps. Brutal. As the track is 1/8 of a mile, I counted 152 laps. I

Christmas Eve on the island and Kathleen had asked me if I would like to cook dinner for her guests, but of course. In Virginia for Thanksgiving and Brian found a 5K for us to run. New records for me (23:17) and Brian, but I am not sure the course was truly accurate as RunKeeper had the distance a bit less than 3.1 miles. But a great pace for me nonetheless. Brian and Landen met us downtown, a quick stop in Times Square for a few photos and we were off for the MoMA. It was very special to see so many great works of art that I have only studied before. Set off to ride to the summit at Haleakala today, 10,023 feet in elevation. It is actually the highest elevation climb in the shortest distance, in the world. Ran the Xterra 10K trail run in Makena, this was definitely the hardest run of my life. Many different settings for what was actually an 11K race. One mile was straight up the hills of Haleakala, it never seemed to end. Of course there was also a downhill, a downhill full of loose rocks and uneven terrain. Jodi found a great trail for me to ride while at her parent's house. It winds along the Chicago River and the Skokie Lagoons. Great ride.Came across some deer again and was able to take a quick picture.This is the route I took from North Brook to Chicago and back, all 35 miles.
